Stop Managing the Pain.
Start Remembering What You're Capable Of.

Weekday options. The land as living relative, not a backdrop. The most honest work your relationship has ever done.

This work happens in the West Denver foothills and mountains of Jefferson County. I am a settler descendant of Western European ancestry, and I am not in formal relationship with the Nations whose land this is. I won't pretend otherwise with a borrowed script.

What I can offer is this: when we're out on this ground together, we are not using it as a tool or a co-therapist. We are entering into relationship with it, restoring what we can, and making an offering of attention, care, and reciprocity in return for what it holds for our work. That is a small, specific practice, not a stand-in for the deeper repair that relationship with the original stewards of this land would require.

Why an Intensive and Why Now

You've probably tried something before. Maybe weekly therapy helped for a while. Maybe you've read the books, done the workshops, had the hard conversations and still find yourselves circling the same fights, the same distance, the same quiet ache.

That's a structure problem, not a character flaw.

Weekly therapy spreads healing thin. You make a breakthrough on Thursday, then life swallows it by Monday. Intensives work differently: a full or half day of uninterrupted, immersive work, in your bodies, on the land, with no place to hide and no need to.

I've witnessed what becomes possible when couples stop managing pain session by session and commit to going all the way in, with the ground beneath them held as a relative, not a backdrop. Root patterns shift. Nervous systems learn new rhythms. People remember who they are to each other, and what they come from.

This is full-send, full-remembering relationship work.

Accelerated breakthroughs: Address root patterns, not just surface symptoms, even if you've felt stuck for years.

Embodied shifts: Your nervous systems learn new ways of relating, not just your minds.

Land in reciprocity: The trail, the trees, the weather are part of the medicine. We're in relationship with this ground, not using it as furniture. You don't need to be outdoorsy. Just present.

Practical tools: Leave with real strategies you can use the next time conflict shows up.

Reconnection: Remember why you chose each other.

This Is for You If...

This intensive works best for couples who:

  • Have basic safety in the relationship (no active intimate partner violence)
  • Are both willing to show up and engage, even skeptically
  • Want to grow, not just prove who's right
  • Are tired of traditional therapy not creating enough momentum for sustained change
  • Would rather be outside than just in an office
  • Are willing to travel into Jeffco for a weekday block, whether you're local or coming from out of state

This intensive is not a good fit for:

  • Active crisis or safety concerns (intimate partner violence, severe substance abuse, suicidality)
  • Situations requiring psychiatric hospitalization
  • Couples who haven't yet established basic relational safety

FAQs

Is this right for us if we're in crisis?
It depends. If you're considering divorce or just discovered an affair, an intensive can be powerful, but only if you're both willing to show up. If there's active domestic violence, severe untreated mental illness, or safety concerns, we'll need to address those first. Let's talk before you decide.
Do we need to be outdoorsy?
Nope. You just need to be willing to step outside, even if that means sitting on a porch or walking a flat trail. If mobility is a concern, we'll adapt. Being in relationship with the land doesn't require athleticism. Just presence.
What if we've done therapy before and it didn't work?
Good. That means you know what doesn't work. Intensives are structurally different: more time, more depth, more embodied. And my approach centers systems, not just individual psychology, so you'll see your relationship in a new frame.
We're traveling from out of state. How does scheduling work?
Many couples fly or drive in for this. Because intensives run as half or full weekday days, Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 2:30, you can build a trip around a single day or stack two or three across a week. Let's talk during your consultation about flight timing and local lodging options in Jeffco so the logistics support the work instead of adding stress to it.
Can we do this online?
Yes, if needed. Virtual intensives include solo land-based assignments where you each spend time outside between sessions. It's not quite the same as in-person, but it's still real and it's still powerful.
What if only one of us is into this?
That's common. One partner is often more bought in at the start. If you're both willing to show up, even skeptically, we can work with that.

Meet Your Guide

Melissa outdoors biking together guide reflecting in nature

I'm Melissa Ryan, Licensed Professional Counselor, Relational Life Therapist-in-training, Certified Alignment Practitioner, mountain biker, dirt biker, outdoor adventurer, mama, and Boundaries Witch.

I help couples see the systems they're caught in, colonial, patriarchal, capitalist patterns that show up in your fights about dishes, sex, money, and parenting, and I guide you toward something freer, more playful, vibrant, and fun.

This work is personal for me too. I come from Western European ancestors, and part of what I bring to this guide role is my own ongoing repair with that lineage, naming the patterns it handed down and choosing, again and again, not to pass them forward unexamined.

I met my spouse on the Colorado River 15 years ago. We've done our own intensive work: RLT bootcamp with Terry Real as well as different types of somatic healing and workshops. I have experienced the dark night of relationship many times, where you question yourself, "is this relationship worth having the same fight about the same bullshit again?"

For me, the cycle of ongoing relationshit is not worth it, and neither for my partner, which is why we have and continue to put in sustained effort for our relational recovery. Because it is possible to experience frequent and ever increasing relational joy, and that makes the work worth it. It is Type 2 fun.

When I'm not working with couples, you'll find me on singletrack (pedaling or throttling), dancing, or out in wild spaces with my family.

What to Expect

No bullshit, no coddling. I'll name what I see and trust you to handle it.

Warmth and humor. This work is hard. It doesn't have to be heavy the whole time.

Your wisdom centered. I'm a guide, not the expert on your relationship. You are.

Practical tools. You'll leave with strategies that actually work in real life, not just in the therapy room.

Land in relationship. The trail, the trees, the weather are part of the medicine, held as kin we're restoring, not scenery we're using.
